Training has a fundamental importance for the diffusion of non-violence not only as an ethical position, but also as men and women’s attitude in response to conflicts and violence of reality.
Training to non-violence and social needs
A suitable definition of the non-violence training could be the following:
the transfer of competencies and information able to face all kind of conflicts in a constructive way for all involved people, without recourse to violent methods or means. The personal growth of individuals participating in this educational process is experienced.
In theory non-violence concerns all types of conflict at all levels: in fact the non-violent approach is effective in case of :

- interpersonal conflicts ( micro level)

- conflicts among social groups (meso level)

- conflicts involving populations of regions and whole countries (macro level)
The peculiarity of non-violence training consists in the fact that it’s addressed also to individual’s psyche and equilibrium, accomplishing to his/her personal needs.
The core of this approach is the relation between causes and effects which are interdependent: causes affect and led to effects. Effects, however, are abstract and cannot be controlled, while causes can be chosen by individual. Effects belong to the future, causes are the present.
The method of non-violence starts from the reflection on conflict which is not considered such as a negative element in itself, it becomes negative when it’s associated with violence and war. Conflict is an integral part of relationships, a permanent status, which may occur in different forms, but it is constant and unavoidable. Denying it means not to recognize its existence and, therefore, not be able to face and transform it.

On the contrary the conflict is a resource: if used positively it leads to the necessary confrontation between the involved parts. In fact a conscious elaboration of the conflict creates conditions for overcoming the antagonisms, generates knowledge, enrichment, flexibility, adaptability, innovation. Overcoming the conflict doesn’t mean to impose one side against the other but means the creation of a new situation which contains the opposites and overcomes the objections. The creative solution of conflict gratifies parts and doesn’t avoid them.

During the workshop we’ll try to use the energy and imagination resulting from the contribution of each participant in order to identify and try new ways of expression, to share experiences, to renegotiate and act “getting in game”. We’ll use the game in order to “play” selected themes in a creative, fun and emotional-experiential perspective. By this way tools of knowledge are filtered through experience and intertwined with playful and emotional aspects.

The aims is to give “means” flexible but rigorous in order to test practically the experiences of cooperation, social involvement and non destructive solution of conflicts.

The playful activity is more than a simple amusement: it’s something spontaneous and
self-motivated; it’s a means by whom the environment is experienced and well known, the reality is transformed and manipulated. Through this activity it’s possible to discover and better know oneself


- Elaboration of strategies based on peer to peer mediation, shared discussion and negotiation in order to face conflicts by valorizing the constructive contribution of involved people

- To put the pupils listening to themselves and their real inner needs, by overcoming attitudes of defense and weaknesses which manifest themselves in aggressive and violent acts

- To accompany pupils in a self-empowerment path for enabling them to rethink and valorize their emotions, rather than perceive feelings as weakness to deny and remove


- To give pupils the tools for:
Recognizing their abilities in acting conflicts in different ways
Having the necessary support (the "legitimacy") to act conflicts personally with responsibility
Interacting with differences

The used methodology focuses on group and its valorization. The group is considered as a complex and open system, created by the interaction among all its members: none is more important and determinant than others, therefore the power of the group consists in its cohesion, the possibility of interactions among its various components.
Within such group dynamics, the expert doesn’t attempt to act "above" individuals, doesn’t give his own solution but he interacts with individuals accompanying them to find the solution.
Another important element of used methodology is the ability to develop a cooperative and collaborative interaction among individuals with same role, who share same responsibilities towards themselves and others. According to this perspective the methodology can be defined experiential.
In the path the game will be as facilitator for individual reflection and the comparison with the group.
